White Tiger

The winner of the 2008 Man Booker prize was announced 14th October and the winner was The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga. It is the story of Balram who leaves his rural village in India to work as a chauffer in Delhi. It is both an hilarious and scathing examination of class and greed as it recounts Balran's increasingly amoral journey to success.

The shortlist for the Booker also included The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry, Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh, The Clothes on their Backs by Linda Grant, The Northern Clemency by Philip Hensher & A Fraction of the Whole by Steve Toltz.
